What happens when you close the lid.

Without Nightrun, the story ends at 23:41. Your Mac sleeps, and your agents stop mid-task.

    You close the lid.

Your Mac stays awake, so your agents keep going. Plugged in or on battery.

Claude Code and Codex show exactly what they’re doing. The others show when they’re busy.

Safe to forget.

A laptop that never sleeps gets hot and runs flat. Nightrun makes sure yours doesn’t.

Sleeps before the battery runs out.
Below 10 %, your Mac goes to sleep. Pick 15, 20 or 30 % instead, or stay awake only when plugged in.
Respects Low Power Mode.
When it’s on, Nightrun steps aside and lets your Mac sleep.
Can’t get stuck on.
If Nightrun quits or crashes, normal sleep comes back by itself. After a restart, too.
Asks for your password once.
That one step lets it keep your Mac awake with the lid closed. It can do exactly that, nothing else.
Your screen still locks.
Nightrun keeps the computer running, not the screen.
Stays on your Mac.
No account, no tracking, no internet. Under 1 % CPU.

Ready in a minute.

Nightrun comes straight from this site, not the App Store, so macOS asks you to approve it the first time. You only do this once.

  2. “Nightrun” Not Opened

    Open it, then click Done

The first time, macOS says it couldn’t check Nightrun. That’s expected: click Done, not Move to Trash.

Questions.

Is Nightrun free?

Yes. No account, no subscription.

Does it work on battery?

Yes. No charger or external display needed. Your Mac still sleeps below 10 % battery, and you can choose to stay awake only when plugged in.

Will my Mac get hot in a bag?

Any laptop that works hard in a closed bag gets warm. Leave it somewhere with air while agents run. Nightrun puts it to sleep a few minutes after they finish, so it isn’t up all night for nothing.

Why does it need my password?

Only an administrator can keep a closed Mac awake. Setup adds one rule that allows exactly two commands, pmset -a disablesleep 1 and 0. You can remove it from the menu any time.

Which agents does it see?

Claude Code and Codex in full detail. Gemini CLI, Cursor Agent, OpenCode, Amp, Goose and Aider by their activity. Nothing to set up for any of them.

Does it send my code anywhere?

No. Nightrun reads your agents’ session logs on your Mac and never connects to the internet.

How is it different from Amphetamine or caffeinate?

Those keep your Mac awake until you remember to stop them, and caffeinate can’t hold a closed lid. Nightrun knows when your agents are done, tells you, and lets your Mac sleep.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or later. Apple silicon and Intel.

Tonight, close the lid

Your agents have work to do. Let them.
